Just in time for Christmas we have unwrapped a few goodies in Newsdesk that we hope will deliver a little bit of festive cheer!

In a final Newsdesk update for 2009 we are adding a splash of colour to things by including news images alongside headlines, where available, and displaying source favicons next to source names in both news and social media search results.

Also in this update is the added functionality to now search over news sources from individual US States, complimenting the existing UK Counties search filter. So should the focus of your query only be based around New England sources then this update allows you to quickly and easily isolate those news sites relevant to you.

As mentioned in our previous post the social media content and coverage is continuing to grow, so alongside the news content Newsdesk provides a complete media monitoring package. Should you have any questions or feedback on these changes please let us know!

London calling? More likely Digging, tweeting and poking

Looks like Londoners love social media, with Twitter’s Evan Williams already declaring London as the “top Twitter-using city” now Digg has revealed that almost ten percent of its traffic comes from the UK capital.

London already enjoys its position as Facebook’s largest geographical network and the United Kingdom as a whole is second only to the US when it comes to traffic to these social networks reports The Telegraph.

It doesn’t matter if you’re tweeting in London, Little Rock or La Paz there will always been someone to connect with, and as a social media monitoring provider it’s our job to make sure we’re listening to the most relevant conversations across the globe.

Announcing Newsdesk’s new newsletter tool

In pursuit of providing tools for sharing news and blogs across the organisation, we’re pleased to announce we’ve just released our new newsletter feature in Newsdesk. With newsletter you can create professional looking news emails for sending out across your company, teams and colleagues. You can set up scheduled newsletters to automatically email out the latest news and blogs, or you can send them by hand with your own inline editorial commentary and notes.

It uses a standard Web email interface like you get with Hotmail or Gmail. Combined with Newsdesk’s news and social media search it creates a compelling and powerful tool, easy to use and with an eye on removing the “manual” out of “manually intensive process”, as one customer described their current newsletter tool.
